July 31, 1923 - January 20, 2012

Victor I. Basque, 88, of Leominster, died Friday, January 20, 2012 in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1923, in Fitchburg; MA, was the son of Pierre and Alice (Lemieux) Basque. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII having served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe with the Company A 295th Engineer Battalion. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Mr. Basque worked as a crane operator for Fitchburg Foundry, which closed in 1982, and then went to work for Central Carrier. He was a member of St. Leo’s Parish in Leominster. He is survived by his son Donald Basque and his wife Cheryl of Leominster, his three grandchildren Lisa Bailey and her husband Jason of Worcester, Dawn Abare and her husband Chad of Palmer, MA and Debbie Basque of Leominster. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years Lena (Pallermo) Basque, who died February 13, 2011.

Funeral Information

The funeral will be held from the Wright-Roy Funeral Home 109 West St., Leominster, on Tuesday January 24, 2012, with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial with Military Honors will be at 1:00 p.m. in Massachusetts Veteran Memorial Cemetery 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening January 23, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
