Monsignor Sirois was born in Leominster on August 9, 1924, the son of Adrien and Cecile (Pelletier) Sirois. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Parish in Leominster, growing up and attended St. Bernard’s High School. He continued his education at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT, followed by school in St. Anne de la Pocatier in Quebec. He then went to the Seminary of Philosophy and completed his final studies at the Grand Seminary of Montreal. He was ordained June 24th, 1951 in Worcester, and celebrated his first mass at St. Cecilia Parish in Leominster.
Monsignor Sirois’ first assignment was Sacred Heart Parish, in Southbridge. He was transferred to St. Anthony’s Parish in Worcester, followed by Assumption Parish in Millbury. He was named an assistant and served at Holy Rosary Parish in Gardner and St. Joseph Parish in Worcester. Monsignor was then named Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Gardner where he served for many years. Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Worcester was his last assignment as Pastor from which he retired in 2007. He continued to assist as a retired priest at St. Cecilia Parish in Leominster until his death.
He served as a priest in the Diocese of Worcester for 61 years. Fr. Sirois was then named Monsignor by the Bishop, for his many years of dedication to the Diocese of Worcester and all the parishes he served throughout the years.
Monsignor Sirois is survived by; a brother-in-law Robert G. Morin of Leominster, two cousins Theresa Pelletier of Leominster, and Fr. Eugene Pelletier of Manchester, a nephew and his wife Paul and Sheryl Morin of Manheim, PA, a niece Denise Stokes of Leominster, and three grand-nieces Celine Stokes, Marissa Morin, and Michele Stokes.
Monsignor Sirois is predeceased by three sisters Simone A. (Sirois) Pepin, Theresa (Sirois) Morin, and Sr. Marie Marthe Sirois who was a member of the Daughter’s of the Holy Spirit religious order in Putnam, CT.
Funeral Information
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cecilia’s Church 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 18, 2012. The Most Reverand Robert J. McManus, Bishop of Worcester, will be the principal celebrant. Monsignor Sirois will lie in honor on Thursday May 17, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in St. Cecilia Church. A vigil service will be held in church at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
