March 10, 1918 - January 17, 2012

Simon "Bill" W. Nelson Jr. 93 of Leominster died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital. He was born on March 10, 1918, in Fitchburg, MA. He was the son of Simon W. and Lyyli (Taavela) Nelson Sr. He served in the United States Marine Corp. and is a Veteran of WWII. Mr. Nelson worked for Borden Chemical in the paint lab. He was a member of the Foggia Society and a former member of the Leominster Eagles. Bill was instrumental in the relocation of the Eagles Hall onto Litchfield St. in Leominster. He is survived by two sons, William E. Nelson of Exeter, NH and John E. Nelson, and his wife Ann Marie CampoBasso, of Leominster, and a sister Kay Driscoll of Fitchburg. He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine (Evans), mother of his children, and by his second wife, Maria "Mamie"(Carrescia) Nelson, two brothers George Nelson and Robert Keronen, and three sisters, Elizabeth (Prescott) Preston , Mary Lundigan, and Claire Dillingham.

Funeral Information

The funeral will be held from the Wright-Roy Funeral Home ,109 West St., Leominster, on Friday January 27, 2012, with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 168 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be on Friday morning at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
