Dear Pat, Ben's brother, Jackie, and younger sister, Beth, and daughter, Diane,
The passing of Ben brought back some precious memories of our young and formative years on Inverness Road and Perth Ave. Ben's mother, Libby Pinder, was my mother's best friend as they both worked hard to bring up us boys to be respectful and proper during those difficult war years. Libby Pinder was the "Den Mother" of us Cub Scouts and did a superior job in her living room.
One Christmas I received a Morse Code system and immediately strung a wire to my buddy Ben's house so we could send messages with dot and dashes and our code book. Ben and Jackie were my best friends before they moved away. Mr. Pinder was quite strict. I remember eating with the Pinders and Mr. Pinder sharply told Ben and Jackie to stop "smacking" their lips while eating. I was not sure what smacking your lips was......... but I sure hoped I was not smacking my lips. One of my fondest memories was when Mr. Pinder took all us kids to the bowling alley to do our best with "duck pins".
Mary Lue and I very much appreciate the visit by Ben and Pat several years back. We quite enjoyed Ben taking us all to the Air Force Museum at the former Sampson Air Force Base and remembering the past.
We want the whole Pinder family to know they have had a special place in our lives and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Ben, and his family certainly was a special part of my life growing up in New Rochelle. We very much appreciate Pat thinking of us and giving us the difficult call reporting on Ben's passing. I will now send word to Ray and Bert McCabe who grew up next to the Pinders and now live in California.
Sincerely,
George and Mary Lue Mueller
