"Sis" Harriet Major Obituary

Lunenburg - Sis died Wednesday June 13, 2018 after a short illness.  Her family would like to thank the staff at the Highlands for the care, compassion, and respect given to Eunice during her last days.

She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on May 22, 1923 and came to the US as a six-month-old in her mother’s arms.  She lived in Lunenburg her entire life, first as a child at Clover Hill Farm on Lincoln Street and then on Cross Road.  Sis was the fourth of five children.  Her father was Frank Richards and her mother was Mary Susanna Drummond.

Sis graduated from Lunenburg High and was a member of the 1940-41 Hall of Fame basketball team.  She married her husband of over 50 years, Joseph John Major on January 1, 1942.  During WWII while Joe was in the service, she worked for a NJ defense contractor as a “Rosie the Riveter”.  She also worked as a waitress, real estate broker, and in quality control for Digital.  Sis loved knitting, needle point, crocheting, and making quilts.  Although she also loved hosting many holiday dinners at her home, her family was her greatest love.

Sis was predeceased by her two brothers Albert “Bud” Richards, James Hugh “Bubba” Richards, and her two sisters Frances Olive (Richards) Puglisi, Winona Anna (Richards) Sparks, her husband Joseph John Major, and her first son Joseph John Major Jr.  Sis leaves three children Susan Elisabeth (Major) Tingey, Nancy Irene (Levy) Major, and James R. Major and his wife Lynn Major.  She also leaves five grandchildren Andrea Tingey, Benjamin Levy, Richard Levy, Ryan Major, and Kate Major as well as, two great grandchildren Quinn Major and Jack Major.
