LEOMINSTER - Alcide E. Lamoureux, 82, of Leominster passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8 at HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital Leominster Campus after a long illness.
He was born and raised in Leominster on May 2, 1943, the son of the late Edmund and Irene (Lachance) Lamoureux.
Al proudly served his country, enlisting in the Air Force and becoming a Staff Sergeant. He worked at Digital Equipment Corporation as a software engineer for many years and was later employed by Compaq Computer Corp until his retirement. He was a communicant of Saint Cecilia's Church in Leominster.
Quiet and thoughtful, Al lived his life in his own understated and steady way. He found joy in the simple things in life; simply spending hours playing computer games, eating out, or just watching his favorite shows. He had his own little rituals that brought him joy, like sneaking outside for a cigarette with a Coke classic in hand, taking a nap in the middle of a party, or heading out the casino with Terry to unwind. He deeply valued time spent with his children and family, especially sharing meals out together where his presence spoke louder than words. A proud Grampy, he shared a special bond with his two granddaughters.
Al will be remembered for his sense of humor, big laugh, his sharp mind and the subtle ways he showed he cared. He didn’t need to say much to be understood by those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
He leaves his loving wife of 57 years, Theresa (Bergeron) Lamoureux; his daughter, Cheryl Ledden and her husband Patrick of Andover; his son, Kevin Lamoureux and his wife Tammy of Templeton; two granddaughters, Destiny Lamoureux and Ashley Lamoureux; brothers-in law, Francis Bergeron, Robert Bergeron, Alfred Bergeron and Gerald Boucher; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine LaFond and Madeleine Boucher as well as his brother, Edward Lamoureux.
The family would like to thank his nurses and doctors at Leominster Hospital, the staff at the Leominster Dialysis Center, the Leominster fire department and ambulance team, all his family and friends who helped assist with his dialysis treatments, Courtney in the palliative care unit, and especially his home healthcare nurse, Leanne who showed him compassion, care and dignity in the final months of his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for calling hours on Friday, April 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 18 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West Street, Leominster, MA.
