Leominster - Barbara Anita Dyer, 91, of Leominster, MA passed away on August 30, 2025. She was born on September 17, 1933, in Laconia, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Thomas N. O'Mara and Ida Elizabeth (Pepin) O'Mara.
She graduated from Laconia High School. She married Ronald Dyer, whom she met while she was working at the Woolworth soda counter in Laconia.
Barbara worked in medical and research laboratories in PA, NY and MA, as a Medical Technician. She thoroughly enjoyed the lab environment which sparked her deep interest in science.
Barbara and Ronald eventually settled in Leominster, MA (in 1969). She attended and graduated from Fitchburg State College with BA and MS degrees.
She had a great interest in science and world history. As a Science teacher in the Fitchburg public schools for many years, she passed her knowledge on to generations of students.
Much of her time was dedicated to educating herself as her thirst for knowledge was everlasting. She avidly read and underlined Scientific American and National Geographic magazines, yet she also enjoyed “The Cat Who…” books by Braun, and funny movies.
Barbara was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. She was dedicated to her family and loved her family and friends deeply.
She loved swimming at the local YMCA and volunteering at Leominster Public Library book sales. She made many great friends over the years.
Barbara is survived by her son Stephen P. Dyer of Lincoln, MA, two sisters Patricia O'Mara, and Joanne Boehm, both of Ocala, Florida, stepsister Katherine O'Mara, and stepbrothers Michael, Thomas, and Kevin O'Mara.
