Dora Duchesneau Obituary

Leominster - Dora M. (Dupuis) Duchesneau, 93, of Leominster, passed away peacefully at home with her loving children by her side on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

Dora was born in Cap Pele’, New Brunswick, Canada on October 21, 1928, daughter of the late Edmond and Catherine (Cullen) Dupuis. She was the beloved wife of the Norman L Duchesneau, who died in 1982.

Dora grew up in Cap Pele’, New Brunswick, with her 9 other siblings. Dora attended nursing school at the Moncton Hospital in Moncton, New Brunswick, graduating top in her class. She immigrated to Leominster, MA. to begin her nursing career. She was a Registered Nurse at several local hospitals and nursing homes. Shortly after coming to the U.S., Dora became a U.S. citizen.  

Dora was a devoted wife and mother. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She was a talented seamstress. She loved to play cards, especially Bridge and “200”, a Canadian card game. Dora loved spending time with her family, especially during the summer and winter holidays.

Dora is survived by her 5 children, Michael N. Duchesneau and his wife Cathy of Northboro, MA., David B. Duchesneau of Leominster, MA., her devoted primary caregiver for several years with whom Dora resided, Ann M. Grogan and her husband Ric of Leominster, MA., Linda M. Plamondon of Harwich Port, MA., and Sheila M. Sweenor and her husband Jeff of South Kingstown, RI.

Dora is also survived by her beloved 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews from U.S. and Canada.  In addition, Dora is survived by a sister Julie Lyons and her husband Jack of Mississauga, Ontario, brother-in-laws John Niles of Fitchburg, MA. and Robert Jones of Laughlin, NV. and her sister-in-law Lucille Comeau of Leominster, MA.

Besides her husband Norman, and her parents, Dora was also predeceased by her grandson David N. Plamondon who was tragically killed at the age of 20, in 2011.

Dora was also predeceased by her siblings, Siffroid Dupuis, Edmund Dupuis, Emma Melanson, Elieen LaCroix, Doris Swatman, Bertha Niles, Louise Dupuis Jones, and Geneva Dupuis.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Vicky and Mandy from The French Connection, who provided Dora the opportunity to remain in her home.

Services will be held at Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West St. Leominster MA on Saturday, February 19, 2022. There will be an hour visitation from 11:00 am–12:00,noon,  followed by a service at 12:00 noon in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers; the family suggests donations may be made to the following: The David N. Plamondon Scholarship Fund, Oakmont Regional High School, 9 Oakmont Dr. Ashburnham, MA  01430 or to Tufts Medical Center at http://giving.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/give to the Cardiovascular Center in honor of the members of Dora’s family who are heart transplant recipients.
