Doris Stebbins Obituary

Nashua, NH - Doris Stebbins passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024; 19 days short of her 105th birthday after a long battle with dementia.

Doris was born in Leominster on March 20,1919 to Joseph E and Stella (Toutant) Lyonnais. She attended St Cecilia elementary school and May A Gallagher Jr High school.

Doris met the love of her life Charles (Augie) Stebbins while roller skating at Whalom Park in Lunenburg. They married in April of 1939 and had 3 children - Barbara, Richard and Kevin.

Doris was an incredible seamstress (this was a Lyonnais gift) making all kinds of men and women clothing, Barbie doll clothes, evening gowns, men’s suits and even a bimini for her daughter’s sailboat.

Doris took great pride in all work she took on.

She worked for Ellana Dress Company making doll clothes and even worked at home while pregnant with Kevin. Later Doris became a lab analyst for Vertipile.

She was a big part of Onyx Catering working with her brother Charlie making salads, finger sandwiches and her famous apple crisp for desserts.

Her cooking was outstanding as well. She was known to make her famous homemade marinara sauce, gnocchi and spaghetti for family gatherings. But, it was her fudge at Christmas time that stole the show.

In relaxing you could catch Doris watching a television show while knitting or crocheting and she would never miss a single stitch. She loved traveling. She would plan vacations with her lady friends to, Europe and Hawaii. And if Liberace or Perry Como were performing in the area, she would be in her glory as she was going to see them.

She is survived by her children Barbara Carlson (David) of Palm City, FL, Richard Stebbins (Sue) of Nashua, NH, daughter in law Christine Cota of Westminster, a granddaughter Jessica (Anthony) McGeorge of Leominster, Grandson Wayne Arsenault of Quebec, Canada, great granddaughters Ali Brassard of Fitchburg, Kendra McGeorge of Leominster and a great great grandson Ryder Cooper of Fitchburg, and her sister, Irene Cormier of West Boylston.

Besides her parents, Doris was pre-deceased by her husband Augie, son Kevin Stebbins, and siblings, Roger Lyonnais, Evelyn Rainville, Robert Lyonnais, Charles Lyonnais.
