Doris Thompson Obituary

Leominster - Doris P. (Woodard) Thompson of Leominster passed away at home, after a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 9th, 1936, to the late Ralph E Woodard and Mary F (Houle) Woodard. She attended St. Leo’s Elementary School and Leominster High School.

In her younger years she was an accomplished roller skater and competed in many dance and team competitions at the Whalom Skating Rink in Lunenburg. She was employed at Union Products, worked as a seamstress and also as a personal housekeeper and cleaner for many years before retiring.

Doris is survived by Richard Thompson, her husband of 65 years, seven of their eight children, Stephen Thompson and his wife Debra, Debra Lord and her late husband Jon, Carol Grubel, Lisa Barnes, Sandra Thompson, Julie Bailey and her husband Jim, and Robert Thompson. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, son-in-law Jeff Mankiewicz, sister Pauline Mongie and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter Linda Mankiewicz, her grandson Timothy Mankiewicz and her brother Ralph Woodard. She was blessed with a large family and loved them all deeply.

Doris will be remembered for her warm smile, love of animals and proverbial event planning, as she was always looking forward to the next family event or holiday. Her favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. She loved to dress up in costume, attend haunted trails and parties with her family. Every year, beginning in the summer, she started to plan for her annual Christmas Eve party. Her house was always pristinely decorated with a present for every family member under the tree. She was able to pass away looking at her pink Victorian crystal angel decorated Christmas tree, fully lighted. However, Doris's greatest love of all was to be surrounded by family and friends. The quality time she was able to spend with them all throughout her life brought her tremendous love. Her warm smile and these memories will live on in her family forever.
