Leominster - Edward Joseph Walsh, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Leominster Hospital with his wife at his side after a short illness. Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane, sons Chris (Emily), Dan (Lynne), and Alex, grandchildren Mikayla, Andrew, Raphaela, and Josephine, sister- and brother-in-law Ellen and Bill Campagna, and brother Paul Walsh, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ed was born on July 14, 1934 in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Michael and Stella (Jacques) and brother to Frank, Robert, Paul and Charlie Walsh. He graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1952 and served in the military as an intelligence officer, stationed at various posts in the United States and Europe. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1961 and Master’s Degree in Education in 1964, both from Fitchburg State College. He went on to teach English for many years at Carter Junior High School before serving as an Assistant Principal from 1971-1981, and then serving as a beloved Assistant Principal at Leominster High School from 1981-1998.
Ed was devoted to his family and to their various activities. He was a constant presence at his childrens’ major and minor life events both academic and athletically. He found continual joy in being a grandfather and was an active part of their lives. Ed loved telling a good story, going out for ice cream, and reading his papers, and was often quick with a joke and to laugh.
In his later years Ed found a great amount of comfort and peace in his relationship with God, especially after surviving pancreatic cancer at age 71, and he enjoyed the prayer group he led at St. Cecilia’s Church, where he went most days for many years.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, September 22, from 4:00-7:00 pm in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West Street, Leominster.
