Leominster - Francis "Fran" J. Girouard, Jr., 86, of Leominster died on Sunday July 4, 2021, peacefully at home.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Madeline (Perla) Girouard, who died in 2015 and by his parents Francis J. Girouard Sr. and Elsie (Niles) Girouard. Fran served his country in the United States Navy learning the machine tool trade. Upon his discharge from the Navy he worked as a toolmaker in the Leominster plastics industry, and eventually established his own company, Girouard Tool and Die in 1965. The company thrived until his retirement in 2001.
Fran loved adventure and could do anything he put his mind to doing. He learned to fly a plane, getting his private pilot’s license and even building and flying his own plane. He was an avid outdoorsman having hunted and fished in numerous places in the northern and southern hemisphere.
A devout Catholic, Fran was a member of St. Anna’s Parish and a dedicated father to six children. He is survived by his six children, Cheryl McLellan and her partner Lawrence Bouchard of West Glover, VT, Susan Clancy and her husband Thomas Clancy of Sterling, David Girouard of Leominster, Linda Newall and her husband, Mark Newall of Marblehead, Judy Gariepy and her husband Stephen Gariepy of Leominster, and Lori Julius and her husband Robert Julius of Sterling; his grandchildren, Jacob Bowser, Adam, Joseph and Madeline Newall, Matthew Girouard and his wife Angel Girouard, Michaela Girouard, Allycia Gariepy and her fiancé David Lombardo, Kyle Gariepy, Benjamin Julius and his fiancé, Shea Duarte, Nicholas Julius and his wife Anna Julius and Carly Mae Julius; his great grandchildren Isabelle and Tyler Girouard, Avery Mae Julius and Nora Perla Newall. He also leaves his brother Paul Girouard of Greenville, NC and his sisters Louise Nadeau of Lunenburg and Marjorie Meigs of Clearwater, FL.
Fran's Funeral will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West St., Leominster, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anna's Church, 199 Lancaster St., Leominster. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 8th, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
