Gena M (Pirro) Nutting

Gena Mary (Pirro) Nutting, 99 years old, of Leominster, passed away on April 24th in Leominster Hospital after a period of declining health. Gena was born in Leominster on July 17,1921 to the late Giovanni and Josephine (Paglia) Pirro. She grew up in Leominster and attended Lancaster St. School and Saxton Trade for Economics classes. She left school at 16 years of age to help raise her 8 brothers and sisters. Gena grew up fast tending to all and was a very responsible person. She went on to work at E.I. Dupont where she became the Model for the new uniform the women wore to work for the Government after the men went off to the war.

Gena was a very good seamstress having made many clothes for herself and her children. She went to work for Wachusett Shirt Co and Cohens, Elena Dress and Margolins. She also at various times worked for Marini Plastics, Castle Novelty and other plastics shops. She retired from the Leominster School System as a cafeteria worker in 1983. Her hobbies were baking her famous Italian cookies and other goodies, Country Music, Crocheting, Flamingos, Foxwoods and playing Cribbage which she taught all her grandchildren and some great grandchildren to play. She played every Tuesday with her favorite nephew Anthony ”Tony” Pirro (who questioned her ability to beat him) and every Sunday with her grandson Rusty Brandes and also Steven Brandes regularly. She also remembered everyone’s birthday sending out 150 cards per year. Gena's family and friends were very important to her. She cherished every moment she spent with them, especially the grandchildren. She was a very loving and caring person. Whatever she could do for you she did. She made everyone feel special. Gena attended St Anna’s Church and St Leos. She was a very religious woman belonging to Children of Mary and other groups.

She is survived by her children; June Draleaus of Leominster, Diane Iannacone and her husband Michael of Leominster, Robert Nutting and his wife Gail of Woodside CA, and Ronald Nutting of Leominster. Her grandchildren are Raymond ”Rusty”(Deanne) Brandes, Richard Brandes, Steve Brandes, Jacqueline (Mark) Brandes-Gerber, Paul “PJ”(Kim) Draleaus Brian Iannacone, Dean (Kristy) Iannacone, Kevin Iannacone and Jason Nutting. Her great grandchildren include Jessica Aho, Zachary Divito, Kayla Brandes, Isabel Draleaus, Tyler Draleaus, Benjamin Brandes, Grace Brandes, Rebecca Brandes and Kayla Jakubiak, Zachary Letters, William Iannacone, Dominic Iannacone, Shawn Iannacone, Domanic Nutting and Nikolas Nutting and 4 great- great grandchildren, Jeremiah Auguste, Juliana Auguste, Jayleen Auguste and Luna Stone.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Everett Nutting , her parents, brothers Nicholas Pirro, Frank Pirro, Anthony Pirro, Ralph Pirro, Michael Pirro and Paul Pirro. Her sisters Phyllis Pirro of Leominster and Anna Deshayes of New Bedford, her grandson Scott Brandes and her great-

great grandaughter, Jayleah Auguste and her best friends Doris Ebb and Kay Schwaber.

She leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins, here and in Canada and Italy.

Calling hours are 9:00-10:30am Wednesday April 28th in Wright Roy Funeral Home, Inc.,  109 West Street,  Leominster.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am in  St. Anna’s Church, 194 Lancaster St., Leominster.   Burial will follow at St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster.
