Jane McCann Walsh, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Sterling Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she had been living after a series of debilitating strokes. Jane is survived by her treasured sons Chris (Emily), Dan (Lynne), and Alex, beloved grandchildren Mikayla, Andrew, Raphaela, and Josephine, best friend and sister Ellen (Bill) Campagna, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Ed Walsh.
Jane was born on July 13, 1945 in Leominster, Mass., the oldest daughter of Francis and Elsie (Marquis) McCann. She graduated from Rivier University in New Hampshire, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1967. She went on to a career as an educator in the Leominster and Clinton school systems, starting as a math teacher at Carter Junior High in 1968 and retiring in 1996, after many years teaching at Clinton High School.
Jane is remembered most for her gifts of unconditional love and support to those around her. She was an involved mother and enthusiastic cheerleader for her sons throughout their lives, whether at the hockey rink, school auditorium, banquet hall, or just while sitting around the kitchen table. She found continual joy in being a grandmother and she delighted in knowing every detail of her grandchildrens’ lives, attending Mikayla and Andrew’s many games, award ceremonies, and more, and later FaceTiming with Rafi and Joey in between visits. Jane was also a devoted friend who had a long list of people she spent time with on a regular basis, especially her sister Ellen, whom she called first thing every single morning. She was an avid reader of fiction, loved playing pickleball, and took great pride in her plants, garden, and home decor, which she updated every season.
Jane was also a thoughtful and generous gift-giver. Nothing made her happier than buying or making personalized presents for people whom she loved, especially at Christmas. She was also the best gift recipient, since she loved and appreciated absolutely everything people gave her. She is dearly missed by her family and friends.
