Fitchburg - Jeannette Alice (Fougere) Piccicuto "Jean" M.S. CAES, 78, of Fitchburg, MA, died Sunday February 2, 2025 in Sterling Village, after a five-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on September 17, 1946, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada and raised in the close-knit seaside community of Dupuis Corner, in the Cap Pele Parrish, she was the daughter of the late Gerard and Enna Fougere.
From an early age, Jean demonstrated a deep aptitude for mathematics. At age seventeen, her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Fitchburg. Her love for math shaped her life, earning her B.S. degree in Mathematics in Education from Fitchburg State University, followed by an M.A.Ed in Mathematics from Framingham State University, and her MFA in Writing. Her career as a beloved and respected educator spanned decades. Her first teaching job was at Leominster High School. She also served as an adjunct professor at several institutions: Virginia Commonwealth University, Alvernia University, New England College, Franklin Pierce University, Lesley University, and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She also worked as a Statistical Consultant and a Research Consultant. Her final job before retiring was supervising student teachers at Fitchburg State University. Shaped by her intellectual passion and dedication and love for her students, she received an Outstanding Faculty Award and was in Who's Who in American Education.
Jean is survived by her husband of 54 years, David Piccicuto, of Fitchburg, her sons; Nicholas Piccicuto and his wife Amy Braun of Rochester, Vermont and their children, Donovan, Desmond Piccicuto and Jay Braun, her son Steven Piccicuto and his wife Nancy of Abington, Maryland, and their children, Elaina, Brinn and Xavier, her sisters; Juliette Finkenauer and her husband Gunter of New Braunfels, Texas, Marcella Corby and husband Robert of Ashburnham, Massachusetts and Gloria Boyd of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Jean loved to travel, enjoyed reading books and trading titles with her sisters, belonged to book clubs, and made a mean manicotti and pecan pie. Jean's husband David said of her, "She was the love of my life and our sons are solid citizens with first class families of their own. She wanted the best for her grandchildren." Jean will be deeply missed by her family and friends and students whose lives she touched. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the loving nursing staff at Sterling Village.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 165 Electric Ave., Fitchburg, MA on Sunday, April 13th, 2025 from l:00 - 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
