Karen (Peltola) Swanson

Leominster - Karen (Peltola) Swanson, 79, of Leominster, died January 7, 2023,  at home with family by her side.  She was born April 29, 1943 in Fitchburg, MA, daughter of the late Wilfred and Vieno (Johnson) Peltola.  Karen was a high school graduate, received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master's Degree in Human Services.  Karen was the floor manager at Oak Mill Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA for many years.  She was transferred to Puerto Rico for a time, before her discharge from the Navy.  She worked as an occupational therapist at Fort Devens, for many years, and went on to be a drug and alcohol Counselor.  She and her husband Edmund worked together, counseling people in AA.  Karen served in the US Navy 1970 - 1973 attaining rank of Captain.

Karen is survived by her son; Sean Snowden of Leominster, her brother; W. Willliam Peltola of Fitchburg and many stepchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.  She was predeceased by her husband Edmund Swanson in 2009.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West Street, Leominster, MA.  A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.   Burial will be held at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchcburg, MA
