Leominster- Landa Carol Heffield Hoke, 78, of Leominster, passed away during the early morning of October 12, 2025, at Life Care Center of Leominster, after a difficult struggle of several years with the effects of Parkinsons disease. Landa was the much beloved wife of her husband Michael Hoke, who survives her; Landa and Mike were married for 53 years. Landa should best be remembered as loving, kind, and thoughtful. Landa was born in Louisville KY, on February 12, 1947, the only child of the late Donald N. Heffield and Jessie L. (Yates) Heffield. Landa and her family moved from Louisville KY to New Carlisle Ohio, near Dayton Ohio, when Landa was 6 years old. After grade school, Landa attended Wright State University, where she met Mike, her future husband. At Wright State University Landa earned a Batchelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Master of Science Degree in Physical Chemistry. Together Landa and Mike then attended graduate school in the Physics Department at The Ohio State University, where Landa earned a Master of Science degree in Physics. After graduate school, Landa and Mike moved to New England where Landa got a job at the Army Natick Research Laboratory. While employed at Natick Labs Landa earned a Masters of Business Administration degree as part of her 27-year professional career as a Physical scientist. Landa retired from Natick Labs in 2014, after which Landa and Mike, who retired in 2011, had slightly more than 10 happy years in retirement, before Landa passed away 12 October 2025. Landa was a long-time member of Leominster United Methodist Church, where she loved Sunday morning worship, and especially the music. Landa was a volunteer at Leominster Hospital during the years 2017-2020.
There will be a service of remembrance on Saturday 25 October 2025. Visitation from 2:30 to approximately 3:00 PM, and service following from approximately 3:00 to 3:30 PM at Leominster United Methodist Church (LUMC), located at 77 Hall Street, Leominster. This will be followed by a short grave side service in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Florence St., Leominster, to be followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall at LUMC. Arrangements are being provided by Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West St., Leominster.
