Leominster – Marilyn Hartnett McGuinness, 91, of Leominster, died April 27, 2023, surrounded by family after a long battle with dementia. She was born October 29, 1931, in Leominster, MA. She was predeceased by her late husband of 19 years, William D. McGuinness; father, Paul L Hartnett; mother, Aurore L. (Fredettte) Hartnett.
Marilyn earned her B.A. in History from the University of New Hampshire and her B.S. in Special Education from Fitchburg State College. She was a third-grade teacher and special education teacher in the Ashburnham School District and later worked for The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Dept. of Public Welfare as a Social Worker when she retired after 21 years of service. Marilyn was an animal lover, contently giving to help animals in need. In her free time, she enjoyed trap shooting, sewing, reading, and shopping.
Marilyn is survived by, one step-son, William (Bill) D. McGuinness II and his wife Jennifer of Shirley; one step-daughter; Michelle Spirlet of Leominster; her sister-in-law Mary Cormier and her husband Al of Leominster; her grandchildren Clay Gensel, Violet Gensel, Cori Aziz and her husband John, Sarah Rogers and her husband Ralph; great grandchildren Billie Mansfield, Kamrin Aziz and Jace Rossignol.
The family would like to thank the Staff at The Manor on the Hill of Leominster for all their support and compassion over the years.
Marilyn will have a Calling Hour on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West Street, Leominster, followed by a Funeral Service in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster.
