Fitchburg - Marjorie "Marge" Pelter Cauley, 89, of Fitchburg , MA, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023. She was born on July 19th, 1934 in the small town of Millboro in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She is the beloved daughter of the late Harry and Guiotha Pelter. Marge was preceded in death by her dear husband, Robert N. Cauley, Sr., her son Gerald W. Cauley, her daughter Diane L. Crowley, and her brothers Claude D. Pelter and Frankie E. Pelter.
Marge was a hardworking, dedicated career woman. While a military wife, she began her career as an administrative bookkeeper for the Air Force and lived in various overseas countries, including Germany and Turkey. For over ten years, Marge served as the Comptroller at the Leominster / Fitchburg YMCA. Additionally, along with her husband, Bob, she founded Cauley's Garden Center in 1968 and Cauley's Florist in 1978, working at the florist shop until the age of 75.
Marge successfully balanced her professional life with raising her seven children. In her free time, Marge cherished spending quality moments with her seven children, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She enjoyed solving word search puzzles, reading, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her family loved being entertained when she played the organ.
Marge will be deeply missed by her surviving sons, Donald Cauley of Incline Village, NV, Robert Cauley of Fort Lauderdale, FL, William Cauley of Leominster, MA, Thomas Cauley of Milford, NH, her daughter Patricia Dee of Lunenburg, and their spouses. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brother Ricky Pelter of Bowling Green, VA., and her nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Woodland Union Church Cemetery in Millboro, VA, on Saturday, November 4th, at 10:00 AM, under the direction of Nicely Funeral Home of Virginia. Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc. 109 West Street, Leominster is assisting locally.
