Mary B. (Blackwell) Kimball

Leominster - Mary B. (Blackwell) Kimball 90 of Leominster, passed on Monday, February 26, 2024 at The Highlands of Fitchburg, MA after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.

She was born May 24, 1933 in Harvard, MA, is the daughter of the late Herbert and Rufaye (Whitney) Blackwell.

 Mary was a 1951 graduate of Bromfield High School in Harvard, MA. She eventually went to work for the Leominster School system in the cafeterias. Before retiring she was the director for the entire Leominster School Food System.

She had many hobbies like sewing, gardening, dancing and singing and she loved to feed and watch her birds and squirrels. Mary was also an avid walker, for many years she would often walk 5 miles a day. She was also a member of the Crystalite Club and a long time Red Cross volunteer. One of her favorite days to celebrate was May Day, she would start in January making May baskets for the celebration and to raise money for the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles R. Kimball, Jr and a brother Wayne Blackwell of North Carolina. 

She is survived by her son Charles W. (Chip) Kimball and his wife Mary of Leominster, her son Reid H. Kimball of Park City, Utah and her daughter Wanda D. Kimball and her wife Donna of Concord, NH. Two brothers Elliott Blackwell of Massachusetts, Lewis Blackwell of Kansas and a sister Bernice (Bunny) Thompson of NH. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews.

Mary’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 am, in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West St., Leominster. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

We would also like to send out a special thank you to her several caretakers for their love, kindness and patience, allowing her to remain home for the last 3 years.
