Leominster - Olga V Valera, 98, died peacefully in Sterling on Monday, October 3, 2022, with her family by her side.
Olga was born April 17 1924 in Leominster Ma. She was the last of eleven children born to her beloved parents David and Maria Pellecchia. She was Aunt Olga to an almost immeasurable number of nieces and nephews. Olga found great pride in belonging to a large Italian family.
Olga married Antonio “Nino” Valera on February 27, 1942 at St Anna’s Church. They have three children Constance Patricia, Diana, and Anthony.
Olga worked at Allen’s Department store and Foster Grant for many years. She was the owner and operator of the Sterling Coffee Shop along with her teenage children who as she remembered “were not always the best employees“.
Olga was a proud resident of Leominster. She was a lifelong and devout parishioner of St Anna’s church serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a founding member of the church’s prayer line offering comfort to anyone regardless of faith.
Another passionate interest was environmental activism long before it became fashionable. Fighting tirelessly for the preservation of Rockwell’s Pond, often enlisting the help of her school age great granddaughter Olivia and her friends to canvas the neighborhood for signatures and support. Olga was an ardent dog lover having pets her entire life. The last being her chihuahua Coco who loved Olga dearly and who was ferocious to the rest of us.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nino.
Olga’s greatest joy was her family.
She is survived by her daughter C. Patricia and her late husband Philip P Toth of Sterling Ma; granddaughter Julia V Toth of Worcester Ma; great granddaughter Olivia P Toth and great great grandson Rory E. Toth-Perla of Lancaster Ma; daughter Diana and her husband Dr. Albert Giallorenzi of Clark Summit, Pa; grandson Dr. Mark Giallorenzi and his wife Jeanne and great grandsons Nicholas, Michael and Christopher of Clark Summit, Pa; granddaughter Cristina Giallorenzi and great granddaughter Jenna of Brigantine NJ; son Anthony Valera of Leominster; granddaughter Stephanie and her husband Felix Martinez and great grandsons Trey, Nico and Gianni of Leominster, Ma.
Olga will especially be remembered for her kindness to family, friends and strangers, her generosity of spirit, and her unwavering faith in which she found comfort and peace. Olga will be remembered as a woman who lived simply but gave greatly. Hers was a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers please donate to St Anna’s Church or a charity of your choice. Also, please take the time to be kind to your fellow human being… Olga would love it.
