Leominster - Rene Albert Gendron died on August 1, 2023 at Rose Monahan Hospice House surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 23, 1931 in Shirley Massachusetts, one of eight children born to Leo and Rene (Michaud) Gendron. He graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1950 where he played football and baseball. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 and served on the USS Severn and USS Benewah as an Engineman Second Class. He was a proud Korean War Veteran.
Rene was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. He loved camping, golfing, spending time in Florida, and visiting his daughter’s family and friends in Arkansas. He was a member of NAFCA and FMCA camping groups. During the week, you could find him walking five miles a day at Doyle field.
He married Jean (Wyman) on April 5, 1953. They had four children Diane Gauthier, Ruth (Eric Reardon), Joanne (Bob Boulanger), and John (Darlene) Gendron. He was predeceased by his wife Jean and son in law Eddie Gauthier. His grandkids; Marcy and Dave Lomme, Brian Andries, Michelle Gauthier, Erin Reardon, Danielle Reardon, Jillian and David Farwell, Bradley Boulanger, Johnathon and Karina Gendron, Andrew Gendron, Tyler Gendron, Lindsey Chadbourne, Hillary Boutin, Meagan Gazda. His great grandkids Jakob, Christopher, Chelsea, Johnathon, Charlotte, Ellie, and Ethan.
He is survived by his sister Estelle Comeau and his companion Mary Fretz. He will join his brothers Leon, Adrien, Gerry, Ernest and his sisters Gabriel and Florida in heaven.
He was the heart of the family, always reminding us to love one another unconditionally. His favorite thing to do was make people laugh. He had a one-liner for every moment and always took the opportunity to share them with everyone. His favorite titles included Dad, Grampy, and Big Grampy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 9th, at 11:00 am, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1400 Main Street, Leominster. Visitation will be prior to the service from 8:15 am - 10:15 am in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc. 109 West Street, Leominster.. Burial will be at the Mass Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, at a later date.
