Leominster
Richard O'Connell Corliss, age 90, of Leominster, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. He will be dearly missed by his surviving family members, including his beloved wife of 34 years, Mary (Gentile) Corliss, his 5 children: Steven Corliss and his wife Linda of Gardner; David Corliss and his wife Belkis of Leominster; Rick Corliss and his wife Marilyn of Leominster; Allison Serina of Portsmouth, RI; and Sharon Iaquinta and her husband Frank of Worcester; and his 3 step-children: Lydia Biasi and her husband John of Lancaster; John Gentile and his wife Christine of Hanover; and Maria Hinkson and her husband Guy of West Boylston. He leaves 22 grandchildren who reside from New England to California, and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Michael Corliss and his wife Jeanne of New Bedford, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Maryann (Blair) Corliss, who died in 1987 after 34 years of marriage, his parents Richard C. and Alice Corliss, and his siblings David and Sylvia Corliss.
Born on September 27, 1933, Richard was a proud Veteran of the Korean War, and went on to earn a degree from Fitchburg State College while raising his family and working full time. He had a lengthy career in the furniture manufacturing business in several management capacities with Selig Furniture Company for 30+ years and ended his career with Ethan Allen Furniture as a plant manager.
Richard loved sports! He was a devoted (sometimes critical) fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. His greatest joy was coaching his 3 sons’ baseball teams for several years, from North Leominster Little League to Leominster Babe Ruth for team Tanzio Park. In later years, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports, from preschool through college.
A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Richard will be held at Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union Street in Leominster on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Burial with Military honors will follow in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leominster Veterans Center, 100 West Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
