Leominster - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rita E. Mercier, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted member of her community. Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, on April 18, 1934, Rita peacefully departed this life on June 24, 2024.
Rita was the cherished daughter of the late John and Mary (Garrity) Medeiros. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Russell Mercier. Rita spent 60 wonderful years residing in Leominster, Massachusetts, where she built a life filled with love, family, and faith.
Rita was a sister to the late Frances Thompson, Lucetta Jamieson, Lorraine Dick and Marie Griffin. She is survived by her four devoted children: Russell J. Mercier and his wife Christina Mercier of Springfield, MA; Mary Kathy Gulley of Leominster, MA; Judith M. Parisey and her husband Bruce Parisey of Olive Branch, MS; and Tim P. Mercier and his wife Deb Mercier of Ashburnham, MA.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to ten grandchildren: Melissa Varlese, Christopher J. Mercier, Jonathan Davis, Cynthia Costa, Dwain Gulley, Bridgette Shively, Danielle Romero, Taylor-Marie Mercier, Courtney Rodriquenz, and Adrianne Maguy. Rita's legacy continues through her ten great-grandchildren: Segolene, Cadence, Samantha, Landon, Dwain III, Olivia, Dallas, Isla, Sophia, and Zelie.
A long-time and faithful member of the Holy Family of Nazareth Church in Leominster, MA, Rita's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was cherished by her church community.
Family and friends are invited to attend services in her honor. Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union Street, Leominster. Rita's funeral will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc. 109 West St., Leominster, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Holy Family of Nazareth Church. Burial will follow in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Leominster.
